Thermodynamics of the Reactions at Solid/Liquid Interfaces

The present review discusses the state of the art of the thermodynamic treatment for variablecharge at solid/liquid interfaces. The most important equations are given for the case of generic surfacesites. This can easily be extended to the more general case for multiple surface sites. Detailed aspects involvingthermodynamic standard states of simple and multidentate surface complexes are addressed, andrelationships between the commonly-used empirical adsorption isotherms and the Surface ComplexationModel are presented.
